Tokyo Humanities Cafe No. 7

We're excited to announce details of our Christmas "Tokyo Humanities Cafe"!

It will be on Thursday, December 20th at 7.30pm, at our usual venue (Good Heavens Bar in Shimokitazawa). As always, the event is completely FREE (please just buy a drink at the bar).

We have another great line-up, with four talks on English education in Japan, design, history, and film:

1) Masahiko Abe (University of Tokyo): "Is Speaking a Skill? Questioning a Japanese Obsession with Fluent English"

2) Francisco Martinez (furniture designer and architect) "Traditional Woodwork, Design, and Hands-on Living"

3) Yuko Nakamura (University of Tokyo)  "Women-Only Gatherings in Meiji Tokyo"

4) Anne-Gaëlle Saliot (Duke University, USA) "Tokyo in Chris Marker's 'Sans Soleil' (1981) and other films"

The talks are all pitched (TED-style) at a general audience - so no specialist knowledge is required. There'll also be plenty of time to relax with a drink, celebrate the end of the year, and meet other attendees. Regulars and new faces are welcome.

More details, and a map of the venue, are available on our website.
